NaNoWriMo: Getting Inspiration from the TD Canadian Children’s Literature Awards

I took the night off from NaNoWriMo last night to go to the annual TD awards for Canadian Children’s Literature published in French. Five books were up for the $30,000 top prize. The event at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts was an opportunity to mingle and meet writers and publishers in the French community.  It’s so inspiring to see writers and illustrators being feted and recognized for their work.

The winner was L’AUTOBUS by Marianne Dubuc. It’s an illustrated story about a little girl who takes the bus alone for the first time and sees all kinds of interesting characters.

AUTOBUS book coverNow I’ll just have to take all this inspiration and use it to help me get through my story this week as I have some serious catching up to do in NaNoWriMo. My word count is at 12,495. According to the stats, at this rate, I will finish my 50,000 words on December 11th. Yikes! I will have to write 1,786 words a day to finish on time.

This challenge is really making me think or actually, not think, too much about the story. At times, it seems as if the characters are letting me know what they want to do next.

What’s inspiring you this month?
